San Jose del Cabo and the catch in between

We spent a night in Muertos and then headed out first light Los Frailes, which is another day sail (47 nm) inching closer to Cabo. Our sail from Bahia Falsa was a bit bumpy and sadly my Dramamine drip that had been working so well for the first week and a half of the trip finally petered out. So, while the guys were fairing just fine, I unfortunately wasn't doing so hot this leg. Oh well, bound to happen I suppose and back to the Patch and Sturgeon pills for me....(sigh)
With a later morning start leaving Los Frailes, we enjoyed a shorter 30nm sail with much calmer seas to San Jose del Cabo. We originally had planned on anchoring back in Cabo San Lucas, but then rethought as we had heard good things about San Jose del Cabo with a nice marina and easy place to take a rest before taking off for the longer hauls up the coast of Baja.
On our trip down, most all of the more fruitful fishing occurred in and around La Paz and Cabo. With this in mind, we had set out our trolling line every day between La Paz and Cabo. First whiz of the line and we set Matthew up to get his catch. And deliver he did!

An awesome Skipjack Tuna! Matt also being an amazing cook and all around incredibly knowledgable foodie, he jumped at preparing his first catch.

Ceviche for lunch followed by a delicious teriyaki tuna dinner (not shown, we scarfed it too fast to shoot it--opps!) Nothing beats a freshly caught meal--thank you gifts from the ocean.
The morning of our sail from Frailes to San Jose, I had asked the sea to deliver us some spectacular sea life, as oddly enough, most of our trip had been completely void of any sea life....which was beyond odd. Nothing in our crossing the Sea of Cortez and just the occasional manta ray in our two anchorages of Muertos and Frailes.
And deliver the sea did! Afternoon of our trip from Frailes to San Jose welcomed us with many, many whale sightings both near and far. Here is the best clip from our many incredible encounters:
(this guys continued this happy dance for a good 30 minutes well beyond when we passed him--that's one happy little whale. I, of course imagined him saying "Ole" each time he breached and flipped landing on his back)
We arrive in San Jose del Cabo in late afternoon. Glad we chose this stop versus Cabo as San Jose del Cabo is a really nice marina and a much more enjoyable stay than in the busy, rolly anchorage in Cabo.
Not much is written about San Jose in our cruise books (as most all of the information is a bit dated anyway) Marina rates (about .80 cents/foot) are about the same as La Paz and understandably so being a big tourist spot so close to Cabo and with really nice facilities.

We spent two days in San Jose and explored around the town for a bit.

While we wanted to only stay two nights, weather was bit crappy for a Saturday departure and with the bash back being uncomfortable anyway, we figured best to wait another day for a better 3 day window.
Tomorrow AM we set out for a three day (77 hr) sail, with our next touch down in Bahia Tortugas (yes home of Crusty Steve -- see Bahia Tortugas post dated Feb 8, 2018 if you need a refresher)
While this will be our last stop with cell and wifi service, we will sign out until we hit Bahia Tortugas. So with that, be back in touch in a few days....and wish us well!
